El gitano del Mar, meet Captain Jepi

El Gitano del Mar: The San Blas Catamaran That Actually Moves

Most catamarans in San Blas find a pretty anchorage on day one.

And stay around the same archipelago for the next 3 days

El Gitano del Mar does not. This is the most active catamaran charter in Guna Yala,  and it starts with the man at the helm.

Captain Jepi: 17 Years on These Waters

The tattoos hit first.

Then he smiles, hands you cold and fresh cocktails, and you forget what you were thinking.

Jepi has been sailing San Blas for over 17 years. Not passing through : living it. He knows these 365 islands the way a local knows his neighborhood: the currents between specific anchorages, the wind behavior at different hours, the hidden spots that don’t appear on any map or Instagram feed.

That knowledge shows up every day of your charter. In the route he chooses. In the anchorage he picks at sunset. In the way he reads a weather shift before anyone else on the water does.

When Hurricane Irma devastated Saint Martin in 2017, Jepi didn’t wait for the news to settle. He loaded his boat with emergency supplies and salvage equipment in Panama and made the crossing to Saint Martin;  one of the first on the scene. He pulled more than 20 boats out of the water. he is that type of human.

What Happens on Board Every Day

Morning.
Jepi is on deck. If you want to join him for a workout, movement, bodyweight exercises, fresh sea air,  he’s there. He practices jiu-jitsu and boxing. His son is currently a jiu-jitsu champion in Panama. He’s a skilled, patient teacher. Men and women guests join him regularly on this healthy morning routine

If you’d rather sleep in, nobody will knock on your door no worry.

Mid-morning.
After a little paddleboard or snorkeling trip, El Gitano del Mar moves to the next island, because that’s what this boat does : Island hopping adventures!

Afternoon.
All about discovering the new anchorage, the new islands around or visiting the villages
then later Chess on the deck if you’re brave enough. Jepi plays every day and he is good. Guests who consider themselves decent players have been humbled. It’s one of those unexpected moments people mention weeks later.

Sunset.
This is when the stories come out. Sailor stories (only if you ask for it) told quietly, without performance, over a drink. The kind that range from fascinating to mildly hair-raising. The kind you only hear from someone who has genuinely lived them.

He is also a tattoo artist. If you want to leave San Blas with some permanent memories, he’s your man.

The Boat: A Lagoon That No Longer Exists in Any Catalog

El Gitano del Mar started as a Lagoon 470.

Jepi didn’t love the stern. So he rebuilt it.

Using his fiberglass expertise, he extended and completely redesigned the rear of the boat, transforming a standard 47-foot production catamaran into a extra comfortable custom 52-foot vessel. More space. Better flow. A boat built to one person’s exact standard.

This is not a rental fleet boat maintained by a management company. It’s a captain’s personal project,  and it shows in every detail and evry itinerary.

What “All Inclusive” Actually Means Here

This is the question we get most often. So let’s be clear.

Everything is included. Really.

✅ All meals and snacks
✅ All snorkeling gear, kuna village visit, anchorage fees, catch of the day, fresh fruits
✅ Paddleboard, dinghy
✅ Open bar ; all day, every day

The open bar deserves its own sentence. Jepi makes cocktails from fresh tropical fruit, mostly rum-based, because you’re in the Caribbean and that’s the right answer. But the bar carries vodka, whisky, gin, beer, and more, we serve wine at the table.

There is no drinks menu. There is no tab. There is no “premium drinks supplement.”

You’re on a catamaran in one of the most beautiful places on earth during your vaction. No schedule, No restrictions.

The Itinerary: Why El Gitano Del Mar Is Different

San Blas has 365 islands. Some charters show you three.

El Gitano del Mar moves. Every day between 2 and 3 diffrent anchorages everyday. Captain Jepi has 17 years of local knowledge and the energy to match,  he is genuinely one of the most active captains in the archipelago.
Your itinerary is built around wind, weather, and what will genuinely give you the best experience that day,  not around what’s easiest for the crew.

Couples who wanted a quiet escape have found themselves anchored off deserted islands they didn’t know existed. Groups who wanted adventure have gotten exactly that.

No two charters are the same. That’s the whole point.
